In the neglected sandy gaps between the bluestone pavers of our back garden little clusters of green leaves are starting to expand. I could take them as yet another reminder to get back there and clean up the damn garden before the spring, but those incipient weeds have gotten me thinking about how little plants like these make it through the winter.
