Spring, for me, starts with the blossoming of red maples growing along the sidewalks in my neighborhood. There are no leaves on the deciduous trees at that point in what is still actually winter, and it is usually still pretty cold, so that we can all make small talk to say, “can you believe the maples are blooming already?”
